Companies around the world are to reducing dollar spending on marketing during recession. This indirectly pushed companies to think creatively in terms of marketing and resulted in a faster adoption of social media marketing. After surfing through so many business websites, I could not help but to notice that the marketing tactics took a change in 2009.

- More businesses sites have integrated blog to complement their existing sites. E.g. Adobe’s Blog, Accenture’s Blog
- Micro Blogging: Twitter took the stage and became a star this year, with much hype and RaRa Drama as Oprah Winfrey, Ashton Kutcher, TheEllenShow somewhere around March 2009. Companies and Organizations are also creating twitter account upon account Dell (They have a few), PepsiRaw, WHONews and all.
- Active use of social media network like Facebook, Ning
- Social Media Monitoring is also surfacing. E.G. Radien6
- Bloggers relations, more companies are engaging active bloggers to aid in spreading the word for a product.
Looks like the traditional online marketing mix has taken a change and is getting more versatile. Does this means the marketing tactics sequences changes for online marketing mix? Maybe not, but the marketing tactics do need to be modified to meet with the changing needs of the situation. Some companies are ready for digital media and marketing programs most are not at the moment.
To prepare, companies need a plan for social media roadmap and benefit from the best and worst practices. Resource planning needed to be re-look at as well. For example: The resources of the company, the target group and end the preferences of consumers. To determine, identify choosing the right approach to use.
