Google Wave is the brand new product from the google stable. Consider it as an advance social media networking and collaboration tool which would be available for service from the end of the year 2009. Wave features collaborative editing, interacting and sharing between users where editing and interacting with team members can operate in a real time environment.

Google Wave allows you to replied and respond to any point in the message or chat, unlike the current chats where it is presented in a sequential manner. You are probably like me who do a cut and paste on the chunk of text that you are replying to, so that you would not lose track of the conversation.

Participants can be added at any point of time. Much to emulate real life conversation where we would at times joins in a conversation during half time. Google Wave allows the participants to work on rich texts, photos, videos, maps etc. It is cutting edge as compared to the available applications that is currently in the market. Google Wave, brings a new meaning to “being social” from application standpoint, this social media tool incorporates ground breaking technologies which would enable a playback and rewind feature to revert back and go through the history.

Will Google Wave be a beacon for the social marketers? We shall see how it unfolds when it is officially released for public use. The key advantage of open source applications would be that it helps to reduce and lower cost involved, and alleviates the hindrances of spent expenditure, especially if you are tight on the budget. Google Wave allows you to embed the “Wave” into the social networkers’ website. The Google Wave application programming interface (API) lets the networkers to develop gadgets for the users.

Google Wave is in the preview / beta stage now, where the potential users and developers could have accounts opened and allowed access to a Wave sandbox before it is launched formally later this year. Though the sandbox version is not very stable as of now, but with the feedback from the current pool of beta testers, flaws related to programming and much bugs fixed should be completed before official launch of Google Wave.

Google Wave has some smart features which would make business collaboration easier than ever. It incorporates a search function and the ability to drag and drop files and folders just made sharing, idea brainstorming, communicating a lot easier. Even tags, Twitter and Facebook accounts can be embedded within it which enhances the functionality of the Wave further.

Data privacy and protection is something to think about before businesses embarks in incorporating and using Google Wave. Nonetheless, the wave looks set to be a system where ideas could be shared and generated on a real time basis, very much different from the idea suggestion systems which some companies may have whether it is share point or other customized system. The beauty of an open source application is the ease of enhancing the application to suit your needs. Business that has the financial means and wants to use the wave as part of their in-house application offering can always hire developers to enhance and to protect the system from prying eyes. Such development cost would be out of reach for the small businesses, but they can still use the application as it is.

Well, a brand new tool for collaborative networking is in the offing and it could potentially change the means of communication, idea generation and sharing for the businesses. Business owners are you ready to catch up with ever changing world and be equipped with innovation of tomorrow and use the next generation tool?
